Structural Mechanics of wind systems

Profile

The diploma course in 'Structural Mechanics of Wind Energy Systems' will provide participants with knowledge about classic, current and future numerical methods for the solution of advanced mechanical models of wind turbine structures and structural components. Engineers will be familiar with the interpretation of stress states in different materials and the consequences for the structural safety and lifetime of wind turbines.

The goal of the diploma course is to recognize which combinations of models and numerical methods can be efficiently and reliably applied for special kinds of structural analyses. Engineers will also be familiar with the limitations of the models and numerical methods. They will overcome these limitations by writing their own partial programs for special tasks in their professional fields.

DAS SMW

Qualification

The participants of this diploma course will learn about classical, current and future numerical methods for the solution of advanced mechanical models of wind turbine structures and structural components. They will also be familiar with the interpretation of stress states in different materials and the consequences for the structural safety and lifetime of wind turbines. They will understand the advantages and disadvantages of models and numerical methods and they will recognize which combinations of models and numerical methods can be efficiently and trustworthily applied for special kinds of structural analyses. Also, the students will be familiar with the limitations of the models and numerical methods and they will overcome these limitations by writing their own partial programs for special tasks in their professional career. Based on their ability to perform realistic simulations of structural behavior of wind turbines, they will be engineers in charge of the design of current wind energy converters, structural safety, new developments of detailed aspects, and general novel designs of wind turbines.
